Stefan Grässle

Stefan Grässle is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Molecular Biology within the Biocenter at Innsbruck Medical University. His academic journey includes a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Innsbruck and Novartis Biochemie Ges.mbH. His research focuses on histone modifications in filamentous fungi, epigenetic regulation, and fungal pathogenesis. He has led projects funded by the Austrian Science Foundation (FWF), such as 'Histone Deacetylases in Fungi: Novel Functions.'

His teaching includes lectures at both Innsbruck Medical University and the University of Innsbruck, covering molecular biology and related fields. Grässle's work bridges fundamental epigenetic mechanisms with applied aspects of fungal biology, including the development of antifungal targets and understanding secondary metabolite production.

Grässle has contributed to over 30 peer-reviewed publications since 1996, exploring topics like histone deacetylases' roles in virulence, chromatin remodeling, and metabolic regulation in fungi. His lab focuses on Aspergillus species and employs advanced techniques such as TAP-tagging and enzymatic activity assays.
