Hubertus Haas is a Professor and Head of the Institute of Molecular Biology at the University of Innsbruck. His work focuses on Molecular Microbiology, particularly iron homeostasis and siderophore metabolism in pathogenic fungi like Aspergillus fumigatus and Penicillium chrysogenum. He leads the HOROS II doctoral program and collaborates on EU initiatives like Eurofung.
- PhD in Biochemistry (1991, University of Innsbruck)
- Habilitation in Microbiology (1999, University of Innsbruck)
His research spans four decades, with a core focus on:
- Siderophore biosynthesis and iron uptake mechanisms
- Nitrogen regulatory networks in fungi
- Non-coding RNA functions
- Antifungal drug target identification
- Fungal stress response pathways
- Molecular tools for fungal manipulation
Key funded projects include:
- SupErA (2019-2022): Siderophore-iron uptake in Erwinia amylovora and Aspergillus fumigatus
- TRANSPAT (2009-2013): Transcriptional networks in filamentous pathogens
- Fuminomics (2008-2012): European Aspergillus research network
He has received scientific recognition through:
- Höchst Award (1996)
- Brandl Award (1998)
