Georgeanne Matthews is an Assistant Professor of Architecture at the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation since 2022. Her work focuses on designing resilient, culturally rooted communities through public architecture and urban planning. She previously served as Director of Urban Practice ad interim at the Catholic University of America and has professional experience at Grimm & Parker Architects and Moody Nolan Architects. Matthews holds a Ph.D. in Urban & Regional Design from the University of Maryland, an M.Arch from UMD, and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania with additional real estate coursework at Georgetown University.

Her research explores housing equity, spatial memory, and the intersection of architecture with social justice. Current projects include the Edgehill Neighborhood Master Plan in Nashville and a new community library/arts center design. As faculty advisor for HUD/ULI competitions, she emphasizes practicum studios addressing public interest design and cultural preservation.
Matthews leads the City Lab Urban Design Collective, a nonprofit advancing equitable urban projects. Her work integrates historical context with forward-looking solutions for 21st-century urban challenges, emphasizing affordability, density, and community-driven design strategies.
