Dr. George Jenner is an Honorary Research Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He holds editorial roles on Lithos and the Canadian Journal of Earth Sciences, and serves as President of the Newfoundland Section of the Geological Association of Canada. Jenner’s research focuses on geochemistry, petrology, and tectonic evolution, with specialties in mantle processes, magmatism, and isotope geochemistry.
Education:
- Honours B.Sc. (1975) – University of Western Ontario (Gold Medal Award)
- M.Sc. (1977) – University of Western Ontario
- Ph.D. (1982) – University of Tasmania, Australia
Research Interests: Jenner investigates continental and oceanic magmatism, mantle metasomatism, and tectonic evolution. His work employs isotopic and trace element geochemistry to explore processes such as crust-mantle interaction, diamond genesis, and collisional orogeny. Key areas include the Grenville Province, Torngat Mountains, and Newfoundland Appalachians.
Awards: Recipient of the Gold Medal Award for his Honours B.Sc. thesis on the geochemistry of Prince Albert Group metavolcanics.
Professional Contributions: Editorial service, leadership in geological societies, and mentorship via postdoctoral and collaborative research. His work has advanced understanding of alkaline magmatism, dyke swarm dynamics, and crustal evolution in diverse tectonic settings.
