Jeff Pollock is a Professor in the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences at Mount Royal University, where he has taught since joining the institution in 2008 after postdoctoral work at The University of Edinburgh. He instructs courses in field geology, mineralogy and geochemistry, igneous and metamorphic petrology, and regional tectonics.
His academic background includes:
- BSc (Hons) and MSc in Geology from Memorial University of Newfoundland
- PhD from North Carolina State University
- Postdoctoral research at The University of Edinburgh
Dr. Pollock's research centers on isotope geochemistry with emphasis on mountain belt evolution, Earth's crust-mantle chemical evolution, and tectonic history reconstruction. He investigates geochronology, structural geology, and geological process rates through fieldwork in the Appalachian Mountains, southern Africa deserts, Torngat Mountains of Labrador, and Newfoundland's Bay of Islands ophiolite. His work extends to paleoclimate studies including carbon capture/storage systems and orbital controls on historical climate change, aiming to decode Earth's environmental narratives through geological evidence.
