George Bartlett

George Bartlett is Associate Lecturer at the Courtauld Institute of Art, specializing in Late Antique, Medieval, and Byzantine art with focus on inscriptions, Christological imagery, and material practices. His PhD research examined naming conventions in Byzantine art through theological and devotional contexts. Additional teaching includes art history for the London School of Mosaic.

Research investigates mosaic techniques, Byzantine glass production, and modern cultural perceptions of Byzantium. Current scholarly projects analyze textual interactions with sacred images in medieval devotional practices across Mediterranean traditions.
