Geoff Farina serves as Lecturer in Musicianship at DePaul University's School of Music, teaching courses including Introduction to Songwriting, History of the Blues, Bluegrass, and Punk & Politics. With over three decades of professional experience, he performs internationally as a guitarist and songwriter across the US, Europe, and Japan.
His educational background features a BA in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music and an MA in English Composition from the University of Massachusetts, where his thesis explored analog synthesis history.
Farina's scholarly work centers on American musical traditions, with deep expertise in Blues and Bluegrass history, Songwriting pedagogy, and Experimental Music. His performance practice spans Guitar Performance of roots traditions (Elizabeth Cotten, Doc Watson) and contemporary forms including Punk Rock and Ragtime, complemented by contributions to Music Technology through Tape Op Magazine articles.
