Dr. Gemma Knowles is a Lecturer in Epidemiology and Youth Mental Health at the Department of Health Service & Population Research, King’s College London, within the School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences. Her work focuses on social transitions, mental health inequalities, and co-producing knowledge with young people.

Research interests include social epidemiology, youth mental health, social injustice, longitudinal modeling, and co-producing research with young people. She leads the Resilience, Ethnicity and Adolescent Mental Health (REACH) study, a school-based cohort project investigating mental health risk factors in inner-city London.
Recent research trends emphasize pandemic impacts on youth mental health, LGBTQ+ disparities, social determinants, and innovative methods like virtual reality and digital diaries. Her 15 most recent publications analyze depressive symptom trajectories, bullying effects, gender differences, and intersectional approaches to mental health.
