Dr. Kathryn Bates is a Research Fellow in the Department of Psychology at King's College London, affiliated with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) and the School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences. She holds a PhD from University College London (2021) and conducts research on how social experiences, neurodevelopment, and environmental factors shape youth development. Her work emphasizes collaboration with charities, practitioners, and young people to bridge research and practice.

Research Interests:
Dr. Bates investigates the interplay between brain development, social adversity, and mental health in adolescents. Her work focuses on adverse adolescent experiences (AAEs), the impact of social media on self-diagnosis (e.g., ADHD), and interventions to support marginalized youth. Key themes include neurodevelopmental changes, mental health resilience, and translating research into educational and clinical practices.

- Co-Investigator on the ESRC-funded UNITE Project (2023–2026), examining loneliness in socio-economically marginalized youth.
