Dr Amanda Bye is a Translational Research Fellow at King’s College London, affiliated with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN) and the King’s Maudsley Partnership for Children and Young People. Her work focuses on youth mental health, digital technology’s impact, maternal and perinatal mental health, and participatory research methods. She leads the 3S-YP cohort study examining social media use and self-harm in youth, funded by the Medical Research Council and Medical Research Foundation. Her research emphasizes co-production with stakeholders, including YoungMinds, to bridge clinical practice and research.
Education: PhD from UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, supervised by Professors Micali, Shawe, and Robinson. Her doctoral work addressed challenges in managing perinatal eating disorders, leading to a co-produced training program for clinicians with the Health Foundation and NIHR ARC South London.
Research interests include digital mental health engagement, perinatal mental health service improvements, and eating disorders during pregnancy/postpartum. She has pioneered frameworks for ethical use of social media data in youth mental health research and contributed to initiatives like the ESMI research program on perinatal mental health services.
Teaching and leadership: Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, with experience supervising students and teaching at King’s College London, UCL, and the University of Surrey. She coordinates interdisciplinary initiatives involving clinicians, charities, and policymakers to address gaps in maternal and youth mental health care.
