Raquel Catalao is an Academic Clinical Fellow in Psychiatry at King's College London (KCL), affiliated with the South West London & St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust and the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust. Her roles include clinical training in medical psychotherapy and general adult psychiatry, alongside research in women's mental health. She holds a BSc in Neuroscience from University College London (UCL) and a medical degree from the University of Oxford.
Raquel’s research focuses on health inequalities, women’s health, perinatal mental health, multi-morbidity, and medical psychotherapy. Her work has explored racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare access and outcomes, particularly in reproductive-age women. Key projects include a NIHR-funded study on ethnic inequalities in multi-morbidity and a data linkage cohort study analyzing mental and physical health disparities in diverse populations.
Her academic contributions include presentations at events like the IoPPN Youth Awards blog (2022) and a seminar on Ethnic inequalities in mental health care in Lambeth (2024). She has also conducted fieldwork in Australia, Mozambique, and Ethiopia, contributing to global health initiatives.
