Professor Gaëlle Fiasse holds an Associate Professorship at McGill University, with a joint appointment in the School of Religious Studies and the Department of Philosophy. She specializes in Ancient Philosophy (Aristotle, Plato, Stoicism) and Contemporary European Ethics (Paul Ricoeur, Hannah Arendt). Her research focuses on interpersonal relationships as foundational to morality, addressing themes like friendship, otherness, forgiveness, and fragility. She is a Canadian correspondent for the Fonds Ricœur and leads bioethics programs in religious studies.
Education: PhD in Philosophy (summa cum laude, UCL Louvain, 2002), MA/BA in Philosophy and Classical Philology. A Fulbright Fellow (2001–2002), she has authored books such as Amour et Fragilité (2015) and Communion, fusion, confusion (2025). Her work bridges philosophy, theology, and ethics, examining topics like spiritual abuse, medical ethics, and narrative identity.
Awards include the Fulbright Fellowship. Grants include SSHRC (2009–2013) for studies on fragility and FQRSC (2008–2011) on forgiveness. She teaches ancient ethics, contemporary theology, and Christian spirituality, emphasizing philosophical approaches to Christian mysticism and personal relationships in religious contexts.
