Gavin Ortlund is a Visiting Professor of Historical Theology at Phoenix Seminary, having joined in 2025. He concurrently serves as President of Truth Unites and Theologian-in-Residence at Immanuel Church in Nashville. His academic affiliations include fellowships with The Keller Center for Cultural Apologetics, The Center for Baptist Renewal, Credo, and membership in the St. Basil Fellowship through The Center for Pastor Theologians, along with a Visiting Scholar position at Reasons to Believe.
Ortlund holds a PhD from Fuller Theological Seminary, an MDiv from Covenant Theological Seminary, and a BA from the University of Georgia. His research focuses on historical Protestant theology, apologetics in contemporary culture, divine simplicity, and methodological approaches to theological triage. His work bridges academic theology with practical church application, particularly in evangelical contexts.
His publications have received notable recognition, especially his award-winning 2021 book Why God Makes Sense in a World that Doesn't. Ortlund actively contributes to theological discourse through speaking engagements at conferences nationwide and media appearances discussing Protestant-Catholic dialogues, biblical interpretation, and church history.
