Gary Stidder is a Principal Lecturer at the University of Brighton’s School of Education, Sport and Health, where he has served as the PGCE and School Direct Route Leader for Physical Education since 2005. He holds a PhD and MA in Education from the University of Brighton, and a BEd (Hons) in Physical Education and English from Brunel University. His career combines academic leadership, teacher training, and international community engagement through sport.
His research and teaching focus on Physical Education, equity, inclusion, and values-based pedagogy. He is renowned for co-founding the Football 4 Peace International Project, which operates in Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Northern Ireland, South Korea, South Africa, Colombia, and The Gambia, using sport as a tool for peacebuilding and social cohesion. He has authored and edited influential books such as Equity and Inclusion in Physical Education and Sport and Becoming a Physical Education Teacher.
His recent publications reflect ongoing engagement with contemporary challenges in education, including pandemic-era teaching, alternative physical activities, and global peace initiatives. The body of work shows a consistent commitment to inclusive practice, teacher development, and innovative curriculum design in physical education.

His leadership in the Football 4 Peace International Project exemplifies his commitment to global social engagement and transformative education.
