Dr. Gary Dalton is an Associate Head (Global Engagement) at the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Portsmouth. He is supervised by Dr. Becky Milne as a PhD candidate, focusing on frontline examination of witness/suspect descriptions in crime. His work collaborates with Hampshire Constabulary and includes prior roles as a research associate funded by the Technology Strategy Board and Economic and Social Research Council.
- Education: BSc (Hons) in Psychology (2009, University of Stirling), one-year exchange at University of Sydney; PhD candidate in Institute of Criminal Justice, University of Portsmouth.
Research interests center on eyewitness memory, face recognition, and police interview techniques. His publications address: (1) decision-making in extended reality environments; (2) critical incident dynamics; (3) vulnerable suspect safeguards; (4) cross-cultural deception detection; (5) model statements in interviews; and (6) forensic interviewing frameworks like LOST WEBSITES.
Collaborations include Prof. Amina Memon (Royal Holloway), Dr. Becky Milne, Dr. Daniel Wright (Florida International University), Dr. Anne Hillstrom, Dr. Lorraine Hope, and Dr. James Sauer. He is a member of the South East Eyewitness Network (SEEN).
