Professor Becky Milne is a Professor of Forensic Psychology at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice. She is a chartered forensic psychologist and scientist, and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. Her work focuses on improving police interviewing techniques, particularly with vulnerable witnesses and suspects. She has contributed to national and international guidelines, including the UK's Achieving Best Evidence Document. Her research spans investigative interviewing strategies, vulnerability in criminal justice, and security-related intelligence gathering.
Professor Milne has held leadership roles in organizations like the NPCC Investigative Interviewing Strategic Steering Group and is an editorial board member for several journals. She received the 2009 Tom Williamson Award for her contributions to investigative interviewing. She founded the Centre of Forensic Interviewing, which focuses on teaching, research, and advanced interview techniques. Her grants include projects on enhancing investigative methods and understanding security threats.
Her research highlights include developing protocols for vulnerable groups, examining decision-making in high-stakes incidents, and analyzing police strategies in international contexts. She has authored over 180 publications and supervised numerous theses. Her work emphasizes practical applications, bridging psychological research with policing practices to ensure justice and security.
