Gareth Caulfield is a Researcher and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the School of Education, Bangor University. His roles include Research Officer and Research Project Support Officer, focusing on bilingualism, minority language education, and STEM subject accessibility. He holds a PhD in Bilingualism (2022–2027), an MA in Childhood and Youth (2020–2021), and a BA in Childhood and Youth Studies from Bangor University (2017–2020).
His research explores the intersection of language, culture, and education, particularly addressing English bias in STEM within minority language contexts. Key themes include linguistic choices among bilingual students, neurodiversity in bilingual settings, and strategies to support Welsh-medium education. Collaborations span Wales and international partners, emphasizing policy-relevant outcomes.
Recent publications analyze barriers to STEM uptake in minority languages, translanguaging practices in classrooms, and literacy assessment for bilingual children. He actively presents on topics like parental choices in Welsh-medium education and minority language transmission.
