Elen Bonner is a Research Fellow at Bangor University's School of Arts, Culture and Language, currently serving as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate for the Rural Wales Local Policy and Innovation Partnership (LPIP). Her work focuses on the interplay between economy, migration, and the Welsh language in rural communities. She holds a PhD from Bangor University (2025) titled 'The Economy, Migration and Minority Languages: Three papers from a Welsh perspective,' complemented by a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (ongoing) and an MA in Community Development (2017).
Her research interests include language sustainability, rural development policy, and bilingual workforce strategies. She has contributed to Welsh Government initiatives and led studies on Welsh language vitality and migration typology. Recent projects include investigating economic impacts on minority languages and co-producing bilingual recruitment guidelines for public sector employers.
Elen has presented at major conferences such as the International Migration and Mobility Conference (2025) and the Royal Welsh Show (2023), addressing topics like youth migration patterns and language policy frameworks. Her work bridges academic research with practical policy solutions, emphasizing community engagement and evidence-based decision-making.
