Gang Yin is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Wayne State University, affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He has been at Wayne State since 1987, advancing to his current rank in 1996. His research focuses on stochastic systems and applications, with co-authored books and numerous journal publications.

He is Editor-in-Chief of the SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization, Senior Editor of IEEE Control Systems Letters, and serves on over 20 editorial boards.
His honors include Fellowships from SIAM, IEEE, and IFAC. Research funding has been secured from NSF, the Army Research Office, and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.
