معرفی
Prof. Gabriel Waksman is a Professor of Structural Molecular Biology at the School of Natural Sciences. His research focuses on the molecular and structural mechanisms of bacterial secretion systems, particularly Type IV Secretion Systems (T4SS) and conjugation processes. He investigates pilus biogenesis in Gram-negative bacteria, emphasizing their roles in pathogenesis and antibiotic resistance.
**Awards and Memberships**
- Fellow of the Royal Society (2012)
- Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (2008)
- EMBO Member (2007)
- Member of the National German Academy of Sciences (2014)
**Research Interests**
- Mechanisms of bacterial conjugation and horizontal gene transfer
- Structural analysis of T4SS machinery
- Biochemical and biophysical studies of pilus assembly
- Role of secretion systems in bacterial virulence
His lab uses cutting-edge structural biology techniques, including cryo-electron microscopy and X-ray crystallography, to elucidate molecular details of secretion systems. Collaborations with microbiologists and computational biologists enhance his work on bacterial pathogenesis and potential therapeutic targets.
