Gabe H. Miller is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), with affiliations across multiple institutions including the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Medicine (Center for Outcomes and Effectiveness Research and Education, Center for AIDS Research, and Minority Health & Research Center), and School of Public Health as Associate Director. His academic work bridges sociology, public health, and gender studies with a focus on LGBTQ+ health equity, racial disparities, and workplace discrimination.
Miller holds a PhD in Sociology from Texas A&M University (2020), along with MA and BA degrees from the same institution. His interdisciplinary research explores how structural factors like policy, workplace environments, and racial contexts influence health outcomes among marginalized populations. Notable areas include transgender mental and physical health, discrimination experiences of Black immigrants, and the intersection of family support with suicide risk in transgender communities.
His publications analyze topics ranging from LGBTQ+ caregiving needs to the impact of cis-normativity in workplaces. Current roles include serving as Associate Scientist in multiple UAB centers, emphasizing translational research and policy impact.
