Dr. Latesha Elopre is an Associate Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She serves as Clinical Core Director for the UAB Center for AIDS Research and Assistant Dean of Diversity and Inclusion for Graduate Medical Education. Her research focuses on improving HIV prevention strategies, particularly among vulnerable populations facing stigma. Key roles include leadership in CFAR, COERE, and the School of Public Health. She holds an MD from the University of Florida and an MS in Public Health from UAB.

Research Interests: Dr. Elopre’s work centers on PrEP implementation, health disparities in HIV prevention, and structural barriers to healthcare access. She leads studies on PrEP modalities, provider training, and community engagement in the Deep South. Her grants include NIH-funded projects on PrEP integration into gynecology care and workforce development for EHE goals.
Grants & Collaborations: Active grants include UAB CFAR Core C, STAR pipeline programs, and the CAMELLIA Cohort study. She collaborates widely with federal agencies and community organizations.
Teaching & Mentorship: Dr. Elopre mentors graduate students (e.g., Odii, Grooms, Gray) and participates in UAB’s diversity initiatives. Her teaching includes lectures on implicit bias and COVID-19 response strategies.
Labs/Teams: Directs the CFAR Clinical Core and coordinates interdisciplinary teams in implementation science and HIV prevention at UAB.
