Friederike Eigler is a Professor of German at Georgetown University’s Department of German within the College of Arts & Sciences. She previously served as department chair for extended periods (2007–2010; 2013–2019) and twice as Convener of the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics. Her academic leadership includes editorships of Gegenwartsliteratur: A German Studies Yearbook (since 2020) and The German Quarterly. She holds the George M. Roth Distinguished Professor title.
Education: PhD from Washington University in St. Louis.
Research Interests: Specializing in 20th–21st century German literature and culture, with focuses on memory studies, spatial narratives, gender studies, and inter-art relations. Current projects explore graphic art-literature intersections, refugee influx literary responses, and European cultural memory.
Publications: Includes monographs on place narratives and post-Wende generational literature, co-edited volumes on Heimat and European literature, and edited journal issues. Her work bridges transnational and interdisciplinary approaches to cultural analysis.
Awards: George M. Roth Distinguished Professorship (Georgetown University).
