Astrid Weigert is a Teaching Professor in the Department of German at Georgetown University's College of Arts & Sciences. She joined the faculty in 1999 and was promoted to her current rank in 2015. Her research focuses on gender and genre in 18th- and 19th-century German literature, including Romanticism (e.g., Dorothea Schlegel) and Naturalism (e.g., Elsa Bernstein), as well as women translators and German business culture curriculum development.
She holds a Ph.D. from Georgetown University. Notable roles include Chair of the German for Professional Purposes Committee (AATG, 2014–present), Assistant Editor of Jahrbuch für Deutsche Gegenwartsliteratur (2021–present), and past Book Review Editor for The German Quarterly (2004–2014). Awards include the 2014 College Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and the 2024 Distinguished Service Award.
Her service contributions emphasize advancing German language education and professional applications, alongside scholarly work on underrepresented female authors and translators in German literary history.
