Franziska Dettner is a Researcher at the Department of Energy and Environmental Management within the Interdisciplinary Institute for Environmental, Social and Human Sciences at the European University of Flensburg. She has been with the institute since early 2019 and is pursuing her doctorate on social costs of energy production since mid-2020.
Education:
- Bachelor's and Master's in Energy and Environmental Management from Flensburg University of Applied Sciences and European University of Flensburg
- Academic exchange at Ningbo University, China, focusing on International Trade and Management and Mandarin
Research Interests: Her work spans open energy system modelling, social dimensions of the energy transition, energy scenario development, and socially equitable energy systems. She specializes in quantifying external costs of energy generation and emissions, evidenced by her Morocco-focused Master's thesis and North/Baltic Seas shipping emissions research.
Project Leadership: She co-acquired the 'Renewable Energy in the Water Sector in Jordan' project (with University of Jordan, IIASA, GIZ), serving as data analyst and workshop leader (2019-2020). Independently, she secured the EKSH-funded 'Climate-neutral shipping for Schleswig-Holstein' project (2020-2021), acting as project manager to quantify shipping emissions' population impacts and evaluate sustainable fuel concepts.
Teaching: She delivered 'Environmental Economics' lectures to international Master's students in winter semester 2019/20, integrating her expertise in policy-driven energy efficiency solutions.
