Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Thiemke is a Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering and Maritime Technologies at Flensburg University of Applied Sciences. His research focuses on marine propulsion systems, including energy efficiency, vibration behavior analysis, emission reduction technologies, and alternative fuels. He actively contributes to projects such as CleanMarine4.0, EcoShip60, and workshops on hydrogen/ammonia fuels for small ships.
He teaches in the Marine Technology and Ship and Plant Engineering programs, emphasizing practical applications of automation and digitalization. His responsibilities include improving ballast water filters and advancing sustainable energy use in Schleswig-Holstein. Prof. Thiemke received the 2020 German Maritime Center Award for outstanding academic maritime teaching, recognizing his student-focused approach and industry-academia collaboration.
