Professor Frank Reimann serves as Principal Investigator at the Institute of Metabolic Science (IMS) within the Metabolic Research Laboratories (MRL), holding the position of Professor of Endocrine Signalling in the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge's School of Clinical Medicine.
His research centers on intestinal hormone secretion mechanisms, particularly studying enteroendocrine cells (EECs) that produce GLP-1, PYY, and GIP – critical regulators of insulin secretion and appetite. Using transgenic mouse models, human intestinal organoids, and advanced techniques like electrophysiology and live-cell imaging, his lab investigates nutrient-sensing pathways and receptor targets (GLP1R, GIPR, Rxfp4) in the central nervous system to develop diabetes and obesity therapeutics.
Professor Reimann collaborates closely with Professor Fiona Gribble's group and supervises multiple PhD/MPhil students while utilizing core facilities including the Core Biochemical Assay Lab and Genomics Bioinformatics Core. His research is funded by Wellcome, Medical Research Council (MRC), Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR-BRC), with key partnerships including Dr. Clemence Blouet and Professor Sir Stephen O'Rahilly.
