Dr. Frank Provenzano is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology and the Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer's Disease and the Aging Brain at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He holds affiliations with the Data Science Institute (DSI) and multiple interdisciplinary centers including Computing Systems for Data-Driven Science, Health Analytics, and Data, Media and Society.
- Education: BS, MS, MPhil, and PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia University
His research focuses on neuroimaging-derived biomarkers through both research and clinical datasets. He pioneered methods for analyzing hippocampal subfields using non-BOLD fMRI, with applications in psychosis, cognitive aging, and Alzheimer’s disease. His work now encompasses PET and MRI imaging techniques to study structural/functional changes across diverse conditions including PTSD, Lewy Body Dementia, schizophrenia, tuberous sclerosis complex, and epilepsy. The lab specializes in harmonizing large neuroimaging datasets and applying statistical machine learning for analysis.
Key roles include leading epilepsy post-processing imaging, membership in the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center biomarker core, and co-investigator status for the Multiple Sclerosis Brain Bank. His research bridges computational methods with clinical neuroscience to advance diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
