Corey McMillan is an Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania and Co-Director of the Penn Frontotemporal Degeneration Center. His research focuses on integrating multimodal data (neuroimaging, genomics, clinical datasets) to understand age-associated neurodegenerative diseases like frontotemporal degeneration (FTD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and primary age-related tauopathy (PART). He leads the Bioinformatics in Neurodegenerative Disease (BiND) Lab, which develops biomarkers and bioinformatic tools for diagnosis and clinical trial endpoints.
- Key Research Themes: Tau and TDP-43 pathology; multimodal neuroimaging (MRI, PET, fMRI); epigenetics; computational modeling of neurodegenerative progression.
- Methodologies: Advanced bioinformatics, deep learning segmentation, digital speech analysis, structural covariance networks, and brain connectome mapping.
- Clinical Focus: Heterogeneity in neurodegenerative disease presentations, including racial/ethnic disparities in symptom progression and environmental-pathological interactions.
- Lab: The BiND Lab emphasizes data-driven subtyping, biomarker development, and collaboration through initiatives like ENIGMA-Parkinson's Disease.
