Prof. Frank Glorius is a Full Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Münster, Germany. He leads the Glorius Research Group, focusing on catalytic methodologies, energy transfer catalysis, and molecular machine learning. His research spans radical reactions, photocatalysis, and synthetic organic chemistry, with significant contributions to drug discovery and materials science.
- Education:
- PhD (2000) and Diploma (1997) in Organic Chemistry from the University of Basel and Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung
- Postdoc at Harvard University (2000-2001) with Prof. David Evans
Research Interests: Development of novel catalytic systems for sustainable synthesis, including radical-polar crossover mechanisms, strain-release reactions, and light-driven processes. His work emphasizes practical applications in pharmaceuticals and advanced materials.
Notable Achievements: Over 25 major awards, including the Otto Bayer Award (2022), Leibniz Prize (2013), and membership in the German National Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina). He has published extensively, with over 1,000 citations annually and leadership roles in research consortia like CRC 1459.
Administration: Current Dean of the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy at Münster, and spokesperson for the BACCARA graduate school. Active in professional societies, including the German Chemical Society (GDCh) and the European Academy of Sciences (Academia Europaea).
