Frank Flury is a Professor of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. He will deliver a lecture on Wednesday, October 25 at 6pm in the atrium of 601 Brannan, preceded by the Fall Charrette starting at 2pm. His work bridges architectural theory and practice through hands-on design-build education.
Background: Trained as an architect and master carpenter in Germany, Flury has taught at IIT for 12 years, offering Design/Build curricula to undergraduate and graduate students. He has also instructed at Auburn University’s Rural Studio, focusing on socially impactful projects.
Key Projects: Notable works include the award-winning Field Chapel in Sekach, Germany; an Exhibition Center at the Farnsworth House in Illinois; and a Library and Dormitory in Twifo Hemang, Ghana. These projects emphasize community engagement, sustainable construction, and cross-cultural collaboration.
Affiliations: Current faculty at Illinois Tech’s College of Architecture and former instructor at Auburn University’s Rural Studio.
