Francisco Mazzola

Dr. Francisco Mazzola is a Lecturer in Middle East Studies at King’s College London’s Department of War Studies, affiliated with the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. He holds a PhD from King’s College London (2018), focusing on statehood dynamics in Lebanon. His research examines security governance in areas of limited statehood, particularly analyzing interactions between state and non-state actors in Lebanon and Latin America. He is a member of the Conflict, Security & Development Research Group (CSDRG) and contributes to the Future Threats Lab, addressing global security challenges through human-centered approaches.

Research interests include police reform, hybrid security sectors, clientelism, and the political settlements shaping state authority. Key works explore Lebanon’s mediated state model and community policing reforms. Teaching includes courses on Middle East conflict/security (6SSW2041) and international politics of the Middle East (7SSWN191).
