معرفی
Dr. Francesco Muschitiello is an Associate Professor in Physical Geography at the University of Cambridge, Department of Geography. His research focuses on paleoclimatology, paleoceanography, and geochronology, with an emphasis on understanding rapid climate transitions. He leads the Climate and Environmental Dynamics group and co-leads the Cambridge Computational Paleoclimatology Research Group, overseeing 15 researchers.
Education: PhD in Marine Geology from the University of Stockholm, MSc in Geology from the University of Perugia, and BSc in Chemistry from the University of Venice.
Research interests include reconstructing past climate dynamics using marine sediment and ice core proxies, developing probabilistic models for stratigraphic alignment, and evaluating climate models against historical scenarios. He has pioneered studies on Arctic and Antarctic sea ice dynamics, thermohaline circulation, and permafrost carbon remobilization.
Grants include NERC-funded projects on North Atlantic climate (ASYNC, £780,000) and probabilistic models (Newton Trust, £55,000). Awards include the EGU Outstanding Early Career Scientists Award (2017) and a Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory Fellowship (2016).
Current PhD students supervised: Sizhe Chen and John Slattery. He offers opportunities for students exploring climate science and numerical techniques, particularly in Arctic and Antarctic research. His team develops computational tools for paleoclimate data analysis and collaborates internationally on initiatives like Ice2Ice and SWERUS C3.
Labs/Teams: Climate and Environmental Dynamics Group (C&ED), Cambridge Computational Paleoclimatology Research Group.
