Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Researchمعرفی
Stijn De Schepper is a Research Professor at NORCE Climate and Environment, affiliated with the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research. His expertise lies in paleoceanography, sea ice reconstructions, and ancient DNA (aDNA) analysis. Current research focuses on Arctic and Antarctic sea ice dynamics using aDNA from marine sediments, funded by ERC, EEA, and Norwegian Research Council grants. Key projects involve international collaborations in Germany, Poland, Australia, and the UK.
Education includes a PhD in Geography from the University of Cambridge (2006), followed by postdoctoral positions at the University of Bremen (2006–2011) and University of Bergen (2011–2014). His research integrates marine palynology (dinoflagellate cysts), geochemistry, and molecular ecology to study Pliocene to Holocene climate transitions.
Research interests emphasize polar paleoceanography, past warm climates, and developing novel proxies like aDNA for sea ice and ecosystem reconstructions. Recent work addresses taxonomic biases in sedimentary DNA and millennial-scale Arctic sea ice variability.
