Fabienne Marret is a Senior Lecturer in Physical Geography at the School of Environmental Sciences, University of Liverpool. Her career spans over two decades, including roles as a Research Fellow at the University of Wales (1998-2005) and subsequent academic progression to Lecturer (2005-2010) and Senior Lecturer (2010-present). She serves as Director of Postgraduate Studies and leads the MSc Environmental and Climate Change program.
Research interests:
- Palaeooceanography
- Late Quaternary climate dynamics
- Marine palynology (dinoflagellate cysts)
- Extreme environment sedimentology
- Climate proxies for salinity and productivity
Article trends: Her recent publications focus on reconstructing Holocene marine environments (Black Sea, Caspian Sea, SE Atlantic) using dinoflagellate cysts and pollen data. Key themes include salinity changes, monsoon variability, coastal upwelling dynamics, and the development of quantitative transfer functions for paleoenvironmental reconstruction.
Projects: She leads studies on the Holocene history of the Black Sea, African monsoon variability, and dinocyst database development for sea-surface condition reconstructions. Her methodological work on Lycopodium marker-grain calibration and cyst morphology has advanced paleoceanographic proxy development.
