معرفی
Dr Francesco Aprile is an Associate Professor in Biological Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, Imperial College London. He is affiliated with multiple research networks, including the CDT in Chemical Biology (supervisor), Chemical Biology and Healthcare, Immuno-Pathology Network, and the Institute of Chemical Biology. His research focuses on developing biomolecules to understand disease mechanisms, particularly amyloid formation in neurodegenerative disorders like dementia.
- Education: PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Milano-Bicocca (Italy)
- Prior position: Senior Research Fellow of the Alzheimer’s Society at the University of Cambridge
Dr Aprile's work centers on amyloid diseases, utilizing high-throughput discovery methods to create antibodies and peptides that target protein aggregates. His research examines how the nervous system's chemical environment influences amyloid formation, with implications for dementia diagnosis and therapy.
He has published extensively on neurodegenerative disorders, including studies on ɑ-Synuclein and Aβ oligomers in Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, JACS, PNAS, and Nature Communications. His recent work explores antibody-based inhibition of amyloid pathways and heterogeneous nucleation mechanisms.
Scientific awards include the prestigious UKRI Future Leaders Fellow grant. His affiliations span interdisciplinary research hubs, and he actively mentors students in chemical biology and healthcare innovation.
