Francesca Fernandez is an Associate Professor in Human Bioscience at the School of Behavioural and Health Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences. Her research focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s and schizophrenia, with an emphasis on genetic, epigenetic, and biomarker approaches. She explores therapeutic targets like sirtuin proteins and natural polyphenolic compounds, alongside the impact of environmental factors such as stress and nutrition on brain health. Her work integrates clinical trials, preclinical studies, and translational research to address cognitive dysfunction and disease progression. Key areas include the role of Lingo-1 signaling, dopaminergic pathways, and omega-3 fatty acids in behavioral and neurological outcomes.
Research Interests:
- Alzheimer’s Disease Therapy and Biomarkers
- Schizophrenia Genetics and Neurodevelopment
- Epigenetic Regulation in Mental Health
- Nutritional Interventions for Cognitive Disorders
- Stress and Neurocognitive Performance
Publications highlight innovative approaches to disease modulation, such as natural medicine and pharmacological interventions. Her work bridges basic science and clinical application, emphasizing the development of diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies.
