She holds a PhD from New Zealand and has extensive experience in research areas including Alzheimer’s disease, nutrition, microbiology, and neurology. Her work focuses on dietary interventions, polyphenols, probiotics, and gut-brain axis interactions in neurodegenerative diseases.
Educations: Doctor of Philosophy (New Zealand, 2011); Bachelor’s/Master’s in Microbiology and Nutrition from University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. Awards include AAIC Travel Fellowship (2013), Presidential Scholarship (2007), and multiple recognitions for academic excellence in microbiology.
Research Interests: Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis, dietary modulation of cognitive decline, neuroprotective effects of plant polyphenols, probiotic interactions in gut microbiota, and translational research in nutritional neuroscience.
Grants & Projects: Over $3.5 million in grants from organizations like the Lions Alzheimer’s Foundation, Australian Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, and industry partners. Projects include studies on short-chain fatty acids, coconut oil’s neuroprotective role, and sorghum polyphenols.
Publications: Over 50 peer-reviewed articles in journals like Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, Neurobiology of Aging, and Nutrients. Recent work emphasizes dietary and microbial influences on Alzheimer’s biomarkers and cognitive outcomes.
