Frances Milliken is a Professor of Management and holds the Arthur E. Imperatore Professorship in Entrepreneurial Studies at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business, New York University, where she has been a faculty member since 1985. She has held key administrative roles including Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Director of the Doctoral Program in Management, and Academic Director of the Langone Program in Westchester.
Her educational background includes a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior, an M.B.A., both from CUNY, and a B.A. in Psychology from Barnard College.
Frances Milliken's research focuses on how organizational contexts shape individual behavior, particularly in the areas of diversity, employee voice and silence, power dynamics, and gender equity. She explores how diversity in teams affects performance, the barriers women face in advancing to leadership (glass ceiling), and how power influences communication. Her recent work examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on gender equity and the role of employee voice in organizational and community engagement.
Her recent publications reflect a strong trend in organizational behavior, management, and social responsibility, with a focus on diversity, communication, and the future of work. These works often intersect with corporate governance, ethical leadership, and societal implications of workplace practices.
