Frances Hodgson is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Transport Studies within the Faculty of Environment, University of Leeds, leading the Social Aspects of transport research theme with over £4 million in managed research funding from UK councils and EU sources over the past eight years.
Her academic background includes:
- BA Hons in Sociology, University of Leeds
- MSc in Transport Planning and Engineering, University of Leeds
Hodgson specializes in sustainable travel behaviour, social impacts of mobility technologies (particularly gender inequalities), and innovative data applications in transport policy. Her expertise spans road safety analysis, walking/cycling infrastructure, and equity-focused transport evaluation.
Current research projects include:
- EMPOWER (EU): ICT and positive incentives in transport schemes
- HABITS (ESRC): Emerging data for transport evaluation and modelling
- KARMA (Alan Turing Institute): Micro-location analytics for cross-sectoral policy
As Programme Manager for the MSc Transport Planning, she teaches transport planning, travel behaviour analysis, and social evaluation methods while supervising dissertations on urban walking, car sharing, food insecurity, and disaster management planning.
