معرفی
Dr Frances Cooper is an Associate Professor at the University College London (UCL) Department of Earth Sciences. Her research integrates Tectonics, Ore Deposits, Geochronology, and Field Geology to explore how large-scale continental deformation, magmatism, and climate interact to form and preserve mineral resources like copper deposits, particularly in the Central Andes and western USA. She contributes to courses such as Introduction to Mineral Resources and Crustal Dynamics, combining fieldwork, lab analysis, and thermal modeling.
- Education: MSci in Geology (UCL, 2003), PhD in Geological Sciences (University of Southern California, 2007), Postdoctoral Research Associate (Arizona State University, 2007–2011)
Her recent work focuses on tectonic controls on porphyry copper systems, supported by a Royal Society International Exchanges Grant for collaborative research in Tibet. She leads UCL's Women in Earth Science (WiES) group, promoting inclusivity through seminars, networking, and field trips. Her publications highlight interdisciplinary studies linking igneous processes, crustal mechanics, and mineral deposit preservation, with field-based projects spanning Greece, Nevada, Bhutan, and Chile.
- Scientific Awards: Royal Society International Exchanges Grant
Dr Cooper's role at UCL emphasizes collaboration, leveraging facilities like the London Geochronology Centre, and addressing critical mineral resource challenges for the global energy transition.
