Françoise Montambeault is a full Professor at the Department of Political Science and Canada Research Chair in Participation and Citizenship at the Université de Montréal. She is affiliated with multiple research centers including the CÉRIUM (Centre d'études et de recherches internationales) and CEPSI (Centre d'études sur la paix et la sécurité internationale). Her recent research explores collaborative urban gardening as a political practice in Latin America, FPIC (Free, Prior, and Informed Consent) protocols for indigenous rights, and democratic innovations emerging from social movements. She has directed numerous PhD and master's theses on topics ranging from indigenous mobilizations to participatory security reforms.
Current projects include FRQSC-funded research on Governance, Inclusion and Citizenship in Latin America (2024-2029) and SSHRC-funded initiatives on Democratic Innovations from Social Movements (2025-2027). She co-leads the Réseau de recherche sur les savoirs citoyens (2024-2028), a strategic research network with 23 collaborating institutions.
