Floris van Swet is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Northumbria University since 2021, part of the UKRI 'Migration, Adaptation, Innovation' project. He holds a PhD in History and East Asian Languages from Harvard University (2019). Prior roles include a postdoc at Yale University's Digital Tokugawa Lab and visiting fellowships at Sophia and Waseda Universities. His research focuses on identity, migration, and social change in early modern Japan, with recent publications analyzing skilled labor migration, rural development, and historiographical debates in East Asia.
