Florian Jeßberger is a Professor at Humboldt University of Berlin, leading the Department of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, International Criminal Law, and Modern Legal History. He directs the Franz von Liszt Institute for International Criminal Justice and co-directs the ReGlo.Law Center for Advanced Studies focused on colonial legacies in law. His research spans international criminal law, comparative criminal law, modern legal history, and the colonial legacy's impact on global jurisprudence.
He holds a PhD from Universität zu Köln and completed his Habilitation at Humboldt University. Previously, he was a professor at Universität Hamburg (2010–2020) and held visiting roles at institutions like Columbia Law School and the University of Oxford. His work engages with decolonizing legal frameworks, transnational justice, and systemic legal inequities.
Jeßberger co-edited influential texts like Principles of International Criminal Law and leads projects funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), including a €4M Center for Advanced Studies starting in 2025. His publications address ICC jurisprudence, colonial legal histories, and strategic litigation tactics.
