Florence Bourgeois

Dr. Florence Bourgeois is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and a faculty member in the Computational Health Informatics Program at Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH). She holds leadership roles, including Director of the Harvard-MIT Center for Regulatory Science and the Pediatric Therapeutics and Regulatory Science Initiative at BCH. Her work focuses on regulatory science, pediatric drug policy, and leveraging health informatics to advance therapeutics and precision medicine in children, particularly those with rare diseases. She also directs a regulatory science fellowship program and has advised the European Medicines Agency on pediatric drug regulations.

Dr. Bourgeois completed her medical training at Washington University School of Medicine and residency/fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital. She holds a Master of Public Health in Clinical Effectiveness from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Her research is funded by NIH, AHRQ, FDA, and foundations, addressing topics like FDA policies, postmarketing drug safety, and pediatric clinical trial methodology.

Her research interests span regulatory science, pediatric therapeutics, health informatics, and rare diseases. Key projects include developing the BCH PrecisionLink Biobank, analyzing FDA approval trends for pediatric drugs and devices, and evaluating electronic health record integration. Her recent publications emphasize AI in medicine, opioid overdose trends, and cross-regulatory comparisons of clinical evidence.

Dr. Bourgeois has contributed to over 200 peer-reviewed articles, focusing on drug policy, medical device regulation, and equity in clinical trials. She advocates for improving transparency in clinical trials and enhancing pediatric representation in research.
