Dr. Monica E. Kleinman is an Associate Professor of Anesthesia (Pediatrics) at Harvard Medical School and holds leadership roles at Boston Children’s Hospital, including Associate Chief of the Division of Critical Care Medicine, Chief Safety Officer of the Program for Patient Safety and Quality, and Co-Chair of the Resuscitation Quality Program. She earned her MD from Brown University, completed residencies at Rhode Island Hospital, and fellowships in pediatric critical care at Yale-New Haven Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Her research focuses on pediatric resuscitation, patient safety, and the rare disease progeria. Notable contributions include developing Boston Children’s early warning score system for patient deterioration and leading clinical trials for progeria using Lonafarnib. She has served in key roles with the American Heart Association and International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR), shaping global resuscitation guidelines.
Recent publications explore sodium bicarbonate use in pediatric cardiac arrest, regulatory ethics in clinical trials, and cardiovascular impacts of progeria. Her work emphasizes translating research into clinical practice through evidence-based protocols and safety initiatives.
