Flora McCrone is a political anthropologist and conflict specialist serving as a Visiting Fellow at the Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), while concurrently pursuing her PhD in the International Development Department. Her research examines political transition and violence in the Horn of Africa's pastoralist zones through interdisciplinary lenses of public authority, political marketplace, and political ecology.
Her expertise spans Conflict Studies and Political Anthropology with geographic focus on the Horn of Africa, emphasizing decentralization, elections, and fragile contexts. She employs comparative ethnography to develop policy-relevant analysis of armed violence and governance in arid regions.
With a decade of field experience across South Sudan, northern Kenya, and Somalia, McCrone has led consultancy projects for:
- Small Arms Survey
- LSE’s Conflict Research Programme
- LSE’s Justice and Security Research Programme
- Major UK, US, and multilateral-funded programmes
Her work concentrates on conflict stabilisation, armed groups, extremism, and transitional justice, recently contributing research to LSE’s Centre for Public Authority in Development. She maintains active collaboration with LSE research teams and regional stakeholders.
