Flavio Malnati is a Lecturer at the Department of Economic Policy, Faculty of Economics and Finance, University of Economics in Bratislava. He is also a Ph.D. candidate at the Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education – Economics Institute (CERGE-EI) in Prague. His research focuses on long-term economic development, economic history, and the role of the state in pre-industrial societies. He has taught courses such as Economic Development and Applied Microeconomics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Previously, he served as a visiting lecturer and teaching assistant in related fields.
Research interests include the causal effects of transportation technology on rural economies and the impact of colonialism on African economies. His notable work examines how military capacity influenced economic development in the Teutonic-Order State. He is affiliated with the Bratislava Behavioral and Economic Experiences for Research Lab (Bee4R LAB) and is currently on the academic job market for 2024-2025.
