Flavia Pichiorri, Ph.D., M.S., is a Professor in the Department of Hematologic Malignancies Translational Science at City of Hope, where she directs the Pichiorri Lab. She previously served as Associate Professor (2016-2021) and Assistant Professor (2011-2016) at City of Hope, and was an Assistant Professor in the Division of Hematology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine prior to that.
Dr. Pichiorri's research focuses on multiple myeloma and leukemia, with particular expertise in experimental therapeutics, antibody-based imaging, and CD38-targeted therapies. Her laboratory investigates preclinical and clinical experimental therapeutics, genetic and epigenetic abnormalities involved in multiple myeloma pathogenesis, and the physiological role of multiple myeloma-derived extracellular vesicles in modulating the tumor microenvironment. She has developed patented approaches for cancer diagnosis and treatment, including a successful Phase 1 trial for an anti-CD38 antibody conjugate with a radiotracer to detect myeloma cell dissemination.
Her publication record demonstrates strong focus on multiple myeloma therapeutics, particularly CD38-targeted approaches, immune modulation, and novel therapeutic combinations. Her recent work includes mathematical modeling of combination therapies, investigation of SUMOylation inhibition to enhance drug sensitivity, and development of novel CD38-CD3 BIONICs for enhanced cancer cell targeting.

Dr. Pichiorri serves as the laboratory investigator for five active clinical trials and is the scientific lead for several City of Hope clinical trials, including radioimmunotherapy, drug repurposing (leflunomide), maintenance approaches, and amyloidosis studies. Her lab includes staff scientists, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students working on various aspects of myeloma and leukemia research. The Pichiorri Lab is supported by the National Cancer Institute, Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, and International Myeloma Society.
