Steven T. Rosen

Steven T. Rosen, M.D., is a Professor in the Division of Lymphoma at City of Hope's Department of Hematology & Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation and serves as Executive Vice President and Director Emeritus of the Comprehensive Cancer Center and Beckman Research Institute. He previously held the Genevieve Teuton Professorship of Medicine at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine and directed the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center for 24 years. Rosen specializes in hematologic malignancies, including leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, with a focus on translational research and clinical investigations.

Education: B.M. (Honors Program, Northwestern University, 1972); M.D. (Northwestern University Medical School, 1976). Training includes hematology/oncology fellowships at the National Cancer Institute and residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Research Interests: Dr. Rosen’s work spans cancer biology, targeted therapies, immunotherapy (e.g., CAR-T cell therapy), and drug resistance mechanisms. His studies address novel treatments for hematologic cancers, including combinations of venetoclax, bortezomib, and rituximab, as well as mechanisms underlying CD38 and Bcl-2 pathways.

Scientific Contributions: Over 400 publications in journals like Clinical Cancer Research, Blood, and Lancet Oncology, focusing on lymphoma biology, AML treatment, and drug development. Editor-in-chief of the Cancer Treatment & Research textbook series.

Awards: Recognized as a “Best Doctor in America,” recipient of the Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award, and inducted into the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering’s College of Fellows. Honored for lifetime achievements in cancer research and patient care.

Leadership: Spearheaded NCI-funded programs at Northwestern and City of Hope, advancing translational research and cancer prevention initiatives. Currently oversees strategic direction at City of Hope as Provost and Chief Scientific Officer.
